A down comforter is a luxurious bedding cover. Since these are luxurious items they also require special care. Once you have your down comforter placed in your bed, place a cover a blanket of anything that can protect it from dust, dirt, or bodily oils. You need to shake your comforter weekly for the down not to settle or bunch up together. If the weather permits it air out your comforter to get rid of unwanted odors that build up and to keep it fresh. You can hang it in a clothesline or out your window.

If you decide to launder your down comforter use a Laundromat with oversized washing machines if you have an oversized comforter. But if you just have a regular sized down comforter the washing machine at home will do. But if incase you decide not to launder your down comforter at home there is also another option for you to bring it to the dry cleaners every year to have it cleaned. Before washing you need to spot and treat stains before washing. Use cold water and a detergent with a degreaser so that oil build ups are removed.

Once finished with washing, manually squeeze out excess water from the comforter. Dry it out in the dryer with low heat. It is recommended that you also insert tennis balls so that the fill will move and not bunch up while drying. After drying, put the down comforter back for another year of comfortable sleep.
